What is the Black Creek Micro-Credit Program?

The Black Creek Micro-Credit Program is a loan support program that seeks to get businesses in the community up and running. Established in 2007 as a part of the Black Creek Community Capacity Project, we partner with Access Community Capital Fund and Alterna Savings to support individuals in the community who need assistance with funding for business and skills development. The Black Creek Micro-Credit Program will contribute to the community, by creating employment and opportunities for professional experience.
A micro-credit program is different from normal bank loans. Members of the community provide the investment backing for local community members who have sound business ideas but are unable to get credit from mainstream banks.

The vision of the Black Creek Community Capacity Building Group is to improve the quality of life of residents living in the Black Creek community by building on strengths and resources. We want to work together with residents, community agencies, faith groups, and businesses.

About us:

The Black Creek Micro-Credit program, as a specific chapter of the Access Community Capital Fund, has a Black Creek Steering Committee, a Local Loan Review committee and an Outreach Committee. Representation on these committees includes community members, representatives from various community-based organizations, local institutions such as York University and people with backgrounds in finance and business.
